WORK

Temporary Foreign Worker Program

This requires an LMIA, which is an approval from Employment and Social Development Canada to the employer to hire a foreign works. An approved LMIA indicates that there is no Canadian or permanent resident to fill a position. Otherwise, an employee can enjoy expedited work permit process if the employee is in NOC 0 and A and is applying outside of Canada through Global Talent Stream (GTS).

Open Work Permits
A work permit that does not restrict you to work on a specific employer or job, with OWP you can work multiple jobs in different employers in different fields. There are several instances wherein you can get an OWP, such as graduating from a DLI, inland spousal application, and foreign workers waiting for their permanent residency application to be finalized.
LMIA-Exempt Jobs
Depending on the stream and the job you are getting, you may be exempt from LMIA. A Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a document that an employer in Canada may need to get before hiring a foreign worker. A positive LMIA will show that there is a need for a foreign worker to fill the job. It will also show that no Canadian worker or permanent resident is available to do the job.
